WHO WE ARE
CHARLES BITTNER, Director
For over two decades, Charles Bittner has arranged and hosted educationally centered fundraising tours for various progressive organizations. He served many years as Academic Liaison for The Nation, where, among other responsibilities, he directed the magazine’s highly lucrative fundraising travel program. Charles has taught journalism and criminal justice at Southern Methodist University in Dallas and currently teaches in the sociology and anthropology department at St. John’s University in New York City.

EDEL BORDON (Cuba)
Edel is one of Cuba’s premier artists. A graduate of both the National School of Art and the Superior Institute of Art, he’s spent over 40-years teaching Cuba’s most renowned artists. For the last two decades, he’s served as a professor of painting at the prestigious San Alejandro School of Art in Havana. Edel is a member of the National League of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and has had over twenty individual exhibitions in various countries including Cuba, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, and Switzerland.
CHRISTOPHER ELIAS QUESADA (Cuba)
Christopher is one of Cuba’s most experienced and highly-educated guides. A top graduate of the prominent Facultad de Lenguas Extranjeras at the University of Havana, he’s escorted groups from various countries to every municipality on the island. Christopher’s central areas of expertise are education, music, and art.
SUJATHA FERNANDES (Cuba)
Sujatha is a Professor of Political Economy and Sociology at the University of Sydney. She taught at the City University of New York for a decade and holds a visiting position at the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research combines social theory and political economy with in-depth, engaged ethnography of global social and labor movements. Her first book, Cuba Represent! looks at the forms of cultural struggle that arose in post-Soviet Cuban society. Fernandes has appeared widely in the media, including MSNBC, NPR, NY1, American Public Radio, BBC, CBC, Al Jazeera, ABC Australia, Radio Nation on Air America, and the Michael Eric Dyson Show, among others.
